Henry Hughes grew up on Long Island, New York, and he has lived in Oregon since 2002 where he teaches literature and writing at Western Oregon University and directs Write Place: Literature, Arts & the Environment https://writeplace.org/ He is the author of four poetry collections, including Men Holding Eggs, which received the Oregon Book Award, and Moist Meridian, which was a finalist for the award. His memoir, Back Seat with Fish, was selected as “Best of the Year” in The Guide to Outdoor Literature. Hughes is the recipient of a Mellon Foundation Grant in literature and his poems have appeared in Antioch Review, Carolina Quarterly, Painted Bride Quarterly, North American Review, Seattle Review, Shenandoah, Sewanee Review, and Queen’s Quarterly. He is a regular reviewer for Harvard Review and the editor of the Everyman’s Library anthologies: The Art of Angling: Poems about Fishing, Fishing Stories, River Poems, and River Stories. http://hughespoetry.com/
Donna Henderson is a founding member of Airlie Press, and the author of four collections of poems. Her poems, essays, reviews, song lyrics and cross-genre collaborations have appeared widely in journals, recordings, and performance venues. Send Word, her most recent collection of poems, was released in 2022.
Professionally, Donna practices psychotherapy, and lives with her husband, Rich Sutliff, in Maupin, OR, where she also teaches writing, makes various kinds of art, and sings jazz in various Columbia Gorge-area venues as often as anyone will let her.
She is currently completing a fourth collection of poems, entitled “Advice to Guest Residents.”
The Open Mic is open to all audience members. Participants can sign up before the start of the reading or during the break. In the interest of time, Open Mic readers are asked to limit their reading to three minutes.

The Ross Island Grocery and Café is a cozy space with capacity for 40 or so people. Tables are available, so people who arrive early can enjoy a light supper (i.e., a sandwich, salad or burger) while waiting for the reading to begin. If we run out of table space, folding chairs are available. A mic will enhance the readings. There is plenty of unrestricted parking on the streets around the Café.
